(Marietta, OH) - With today being the first day of October, it also marks the peak of deer mating season.

This means the risk of colliding with deer while driving has just become greater. Although the number of reported deer-vehicle crashes are down, the average collision claim is expected to rise six percent this year to $4,135.

The Ohio Insurance institute estimates statewide damages for such claims in 2014 to be nearly $77 million dollars.

So, while driving be extra cautious as it is expected to be more costly than last year.
