(Marietta, OH) – With the drug problem in our area, specifically heroin, the fatal overdose rates have been a growing concern with state representatives, local representatives, and local law enforcement. Not to mention the families of the addicts.

When a person is going through an overdose there is an antidote that is carried by local law enforcement and emergency personnel called Narcan. That antidote is soon going to be able to be purchased by citizens through the popular pharmacy chain CVS.

According to the Marietta Times CVS Health recently announced that they will make Narcan available at their stores across the state without need for a prescription. It will be available in CVS stores beginning in late March.

The drug Naloxone or, by the brand name Narcan, is known as a safe and effective way of reversing the fatal effects of an opioid overdose.

A report from the Ohio Department of Health showed 1,988 opioid overdose deaths in 2014 and around 12,000 in total since 2002.
