MARIETTA, Ohio (May 23, 2016) - There is no place like home. For individuals trying to "age in place" or those with disabilities working for independence, one housing grant program is making a difference.

Administered through Buckeye Hills-Hocking Valley Regional Development District, the $250,000 grant was recently awarded by the Development Services Agency.

Joe Gage with the Area Agency on Aging district that serves Washington County, says grants are available for income eligible individuals with a disability of any age or seniors who own their home or have a life estate in the property.

For residents who qualify, monies may be used to assist with accessibility like widening doorways, adding wheelchair ramps, and necessary room modifications.

The program will assess the home for eligible repairs, develop a plan of action, and bid the project to qualified providers to complete the work.

To be eligible for the current cycle of grant funding, households must be at or below the $18,750 income level in Washington County.
