(Marietta, OH) -- If you are an amateur radio buff in the Marietta area this weekend, you are about to have a field day!

The Marietta Amateur Radio Club will hold its annual Field Day exercise Friday and Saturday. During the exercise, the club will setup portable stations and communicate with other Ham Radio groups around the nation. The event is designed to give enthusiasts an experience operating under less than ideal conditions. These stations operate on emergency power, use temporary antennae and are required to setup and operate for a 24-hour period.

The public is welcome to visit Jackson Park between 2 and 4 p.m. Saturday to observe the field day activities. Last year, roughly a dozen local amateurs participated, and the Marietta Amateur Radio Club made contact with more than 1,300 other stations during the operation.
