As we roll into a new year, officials with the Washington County Board of Elections reminds residents that February 1st is the filing deadline for inclusion on the May Primary Ballot.

Candidates can find the paperwork online, says Peggy Byers, with the Board of Elections, but if they come to the local office, they will be provided a checklist of some pitfalls to avoid when preparing their petitions.  Byers says the BOE office is not permitted to answer questions on a petition when the forms are returned, as that could be considered legal advice.

According to Byers, several positions are up for grabs across the county, including mayors, city and village officials, judges of municipal courts, township trustees and fiscal officers, among others.

Byers says it is very important to check the party, if that is important to your petition, and to make sure names and addresses are current. She adds that the web site is very user friendly and BOE officials are happy to help.  You can visit the website by clicking here.

The 2017 Primary Election will be held on May 2nd.  November 7th 2017 will be General Election Day.
