An 8th grade student from Marietta Middle School is reportedly in custody and will remain in custody after making threats toward another student and the school on social media.

The Marietta Police Department's report says that they found a "hit list" on his cellphone which contained names of students and staff and the end of the list allegely read, "If I'm not dead by then, shoot up the school."

According to other news outlets, the threats began on May 15th when the 14 year old boy sent a message to a girl in his class.  She told a teacher the next day and in retaliation, the boy sent another message that reportedly said "Say your goodbyes."  As the girl turned around, the boy made a gun motion with his hand and later made a firing motion toward her.

The student reportedly admitted to the threats during questioning and was later arrested for aggravated menacing.  He has also been suspended for the remainder of the school year and is even being considered for expulsion.

The school system says in their news release that they wish to reassure parents, students and staff that all of the reasonable precautions are being taken and that they are coordinating with the Marietta Police Department.

The student was arrested on May 20th.
