On October 10th 2017 at 12:14 a.m., Officer Robert Perry was working special duty in a cruiser on Interstate 70 westbound, just west of 270 on the west side when his cruiser was struck by a semi-truck.

Officer Perry was working traffic enforcement in the construction area and had just stopped a motorist for speed in the construction zone. Officer Perry was sitting inside of his cruiser writing a citation when, just east of his location, a semi-truck was cut off by another vehicle which caused the semi to strike that vehicle and immediately veer into the berm where cruiser 624 was located. The semi struck the cruiser in the rear right & pushed it into the center barrier.

Officer Perry sustained minor injuries and was hospitalized for evaluation. The other drivers were all treated by medics on the scene for minor injuries. The freeway re-opened shortly after 4:00 a.m. For WMOA News, I'm Landon Santini.
