Washington State Community College (WSCC) will host more than 800 students at its 25th annual Young Engineers and Scientist (YES) Days programs on October 26th & 27th from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., with lunch occurring during the 11:00 a.m. hour.
WMOA News recently spoke with Washington State Community College's Director of Library Services Lou Moegling about just this event is all about and the impression that it intends to make on the Mid-Ohio Valley's tween population.
"The Young Engineers and Scientist Field Days were started 25 years ago to help the area's youth to start thinking about careers in the sciences and maths and technologies. And we're expecting 811 7th graders from 10 schools and a homeschool group in Washington and Noble Counties. And we're expecting 44 different presenter groups from business and industry, from government agencies, from schools and colleges who will share with the student's hands-on activities of how they use math and science in their daily work lives. It's become an excellent opportunity for students to start being aware of careers in their field that they may be interested in pursuing or to at least start preparing for."
All students who participate will receive a commemorative T-shirt that features a design originally created by then-seventh grader Caitlyn Booth. Booth, a graduate of Marietta High School, went on to earn her M.D. from Northeastern Ohio Universities Colleges of Medicine and Pharmacy.
