"Hope for the Holidays" Celebrates Organ Donors
Posted on: 11/13/2012
By  Kylie Smith

It’s estimated that nearly half of Ohio drivers are organ and tissue donors, according to the state bureau of motor vehicles.

Memorial Health System is honoring local donors with the “Hope for the Holidays” event, happening November 13 at Marietta Memorial Hospital.

During the event, participants make ornaments and adorn them on the hospital’s holiday tree. Memorial's Jennifer Offenberger says it’s the third annual event with attendance growing each year.

“We’re looking forward to donor families and donor recipients coming from all over southeast Ohio and West Virginia,” notes Offenberger.

She emphasizes that organ donors do save lives. “In the United State every day 18 men, women, and children die while waiting for an organ transplant; and every ten minues another person is added to the national waiting list,” says Offenberger.

Hope for the Holidays starts at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, November 13 in the South Pavilion Conference Room. It’s open to all organ and tissue donors and recipients.
