It’s been one year today since the death of 20-year-old Jaleayah Davis.
The Marietta woman’s body was found in the early morning hours of November 19, 2011 on Interstate 77 near the Emerson Avenue exit, two tenths of a mile from her car. Davis sustained multiple traumatic injuries and her death was labeled “suspicious” by law enforcement.
WMOA News spoke with Cynthia Noland, Davis’s grandmother, who says the Wood County Sheriff’s Office investigation into her death is still open and active.
An arrest was made on November 1, concerning an eyewitness accused of falsely implicating several individuals, causing a substantial waste of investigative hours and efforts.
27-year-old Ember Stafford of 702 Sixth Street, was charged in Marietta with being a fugitive of justice and extradited to West Virginia November 9 to face charges of false reporting.
A candlelight vigil sponsored by Davis’s friends is being held this evening at 6 p.m. at the levy in Marietta. Her family will be attending.
