Officers Assaulted Outside Downtown Bar
Posted on: 01/03/2013
By  Mike Cullums
Two Marietta Police officers were injured while breaking up a fight in front of a downtown bar at 2:30 this morning.
Captain Jeff Waite says that patrolmen Ed Wright and Matt McCracken observed a fight starting in front of the Locker Room, 217 Greene Street. As the officers moved to break up the altercation, 21-year-old Jason Anthony Carpenter of 182 Dawes Circle lunged forward, knocking bar employee John Carter backwards.
Waite says that at that point, the officers advised Jason Carpenter he was under arrest and to put his hands behind his back, to which he replied he was not under arrest, assumed a fighting stance, and attacked the officers, who took him to the ground. Carpenter continued to fight until he was handcuffed.
According to Waite, the officers’ injuries did not appear to be serious.
Jason Carpenter was charged with resisting arrest and disorderly conduct by fighting, and was later released on personal recognizance bond.
