Community College to Visit County Libraries, Early Evenings This Month
Posted on: 03/07/2013
By  Mike Cullums

The next several weeks, Washington State Community College staffers will be out and about, visiting branches of the Washington County Public Library.

Carrie Thrash is assistant director of admissions at the college. She says the purpose of the effort “is for us to go out into the communities because sometimes it’s just not easy for people to come to our campus.”

The first event took place Tuesday at the Beverly Public Library. The next happens this evening at the Barlow Public Library; then Tuesday (March 12) at New Matamoras; Monday (March 18) at Belpre; and Thursday (March 21) at the main library in Marietta. All the events take place place from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.

Thrash says this is an expansion of a successful outreach program Washington State initiated at Grand Central Mall in Vienna.

“We set up there for a few times on a Saturday, and that was a great outreach opportunity for us, so this is a way for us to be a little closer to our Washington County residents at a time that’s convenient for them,” Thrash explains, adding that the staff hopes to see students, parents and working adults, looking for information on class options or financial assistance.
