This Memorial Weekend many families will be celebrating the holiday, and one thing that has become a local tradition is going to opening day of the Marietta Aquatic Center. WMOA News spoke with Tom Kunz, the citys public facilities superintendent.

The last few weeks have been very demanding, as far as prepping the pool and getting it ready for opening day, which is this coming Saturday," Kunz explains.  "If its anything like past years, the line is amazing.  People are very excited about opening day.  They bring young and old.  They come here and usually spend the entire day.

Kunz says some updates have been made for this summer.

Weve had our slides refurbished," Kunz says.  "Weve done a lot of painting inside and outside.  The pirate ship has not had a makeover since the birth of the ship in 2004.  It now looks brand new.  Its been painted.  The tunnels the kids crawl through have new padding.  Its a whole new look at the Aquatic Center.  Im sure that everyone that comes here will be very pleased.

The Aquatic Center reopens this Saturday at noon and closes at 8 o clock each evening. Tom Kunz also says that if you are interested in booking a private party to contact Susan Joyce at 373-1616.
