Board of Elections Now In New Location
Posted on: 08/21/2013
By  Andy Rex

About a week ago, the Washington County Board of Elections office moved to its new location, inside the Children’s Services building at 204 Davis Avenue. Elections Director Tara Hupp tells WMOA News the move was much needed…

“We’ve been in discussions for a potential move for a number of years with the county commissioners to meet certain requirements – more ADA accessible parking, a better location for prevention of electioneering activity.  Being down at the courthouse, we were near the café.  It’s been in the works for a while.”

She says the transition from within the courthouse to the new facility went very smoothly…

“We planned for it.  We packed during the summer, and had a lot of stuff ready to go.  So, when the technology aspects of the new office – the phone lines and the Secretary of State lines we’re required to have – were put into place, we were able to pretty quickly (move).  We actually moved in one day.  We were really able to keep our services and not have to close the office.”

Naturally, almost everyone in Washington County knows where the Courthouse is, but quite a few people outside Marietta are not familiar with Davis Avenue, which runs from Muskingum Drive (State Route 60) to Marietta High School.

Tara Hupp says the Elections Board is working to make everyone aware of their new location…

“Obviously, to come to the board of elections, they’re specifically going to be coming for board of elections business.  We’ll have signage here in the very near future.  We do have some directional signage now.  We’ll have more, larger, distinctive signing.  We want (people) to know we’re here.  They can call us.  We have the same phone number, 740-374-6828.  If they have any questions whatsoever, they can contact us.”

The elections web site has been incorporated into www.washingtongov.org under the departments tab.
