Marietta City Police Respond to Stand-off Situation

WMOA NEWS SPOKE WITH CAPTAIN JEFF WAITE OF THE MARIETTA CITY POLICE ABOUT AN EARLY MORNING STAND-OFF SITUATION THEY RESPONDED TO.  WILLIAM BRUCE RANSOM JR LIVES AT 140 E. SPRING STREET AND, AT APPROXIMATELY 12:15AM HIS WIFE CALLED 911 TO REPORT THAT RANSOM WAS POSSIBLY SUICIDAL AND WAS UPSTAIRS IN THE HOME WITH A SHOTGUN. 

WHEN OFFICERS RESPONDED TO THE SCENE RANSOM DISCHARGED HIS WEAPON AND BEGAN TO FIRE AT POLICE VEHICLES. THE MARIETTA POLICE DEPARTMENT CALLED THE WASHINGTON COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE FOR ASSISTANCE WITH THEIR SPECIAL RESPONSE TEAM, WHO BROUGHT THEIR ARMORED VEHICLE. 

RANSOM DISCHARGED HIS SHOTGUN THROUGH THE FLOOR OF THE SECOND STORY OF THE HOME IN THE DIRECTION OF THE OFFICERS.  LATER, WHEN THE SHOOTING BEGAN TO GET MORE CONSTANT THE DECISION WAS MADE TO USE TEAR GAS AND RANSOM CAME OUT OF THE HOME WITH NO MORE RESISTANCE. 

CAPTAIN WAITE ALSO THANKS THE WASHINGTON COUNTY SHERIFF AND THE OHIO HIGHWAY PATROL FOR THEIR ASSISTANCE WITH THE SITUATION.

RANSOM JR IS BEING HELD IN THE WASHINGTON COUNTY JAIL AND IS CHARGED WITH ATTEMPTED MURDER OF A POLICE OFFICER WITH MORE CHARGES TO POSSIBLY FOLLOW.
