Man Arrested After Norwood Tavern Brawl
Posted on: 03/03/2014

A Parkersburg man faces numerous charges after a bar fight in Marietta early Sunday morning.
Police say 20-year-old Kurtis Matthew Walters of Dupont Road was involved in a large fight at the Norwood Tavern, 935 Greene Street, at 12:15 AM Sunday. After the fight broke up, Walters was confronted by a female bartender who wanted him to leave. He allegedly attacked her and held her until other patrons freed her.
At that time officers arrived and tried to place Walters under arrest. Captain Jeff Waite says he became violent, kicking officers in the legs and groin, then damaging the rear door of a cruiser so badly that he had to be transferred into another cruiser.
Once taken to jail, Kurtis Walters tested three times the legal limit for alcohol. He was charged with two counts of assault on a peace officer, along with one count each of assault, resisting arrest, criminal damaging and underage consumption.
Sheriff’s deputies assisted city officers in responding to the fight call. No other arrests were reported from the initial incident.
