Neighbors Host WV Meeting
Posted on: 02/14/2008
By  Callie Lyons
This month the Neighbors for Clean air are holding a meeting for residents of Vienna, Williamstown and Boaz. The public forum will be held in the Neale Elementary School cafeteria in Vienna on Tuesday, February 26 at 7 pm.

For nearly two years, the Neighbors for Clean Air and Ohio Citizen Action have been working on a campaign to clean up the Eramet Marietta facility, located on Route 7. At the meeting, Mid-Ohio Valley Health Department Executive Director, Dick Wittberg, will present air quality monitoring data from the Agency on Toxic Substances and Disease Registry and share information about recently completed and ongoing studies on the health effects of manganese, a chemical of particular concern.

Neale Elementary School is the site of one of six air monitors installed by the ATSDR to test for airborne manganese. Results from 2007 air monitoring recorded the highest reading, six times the federal standard, from Neale Elementary.
