On Wednesday afternoon, city officials are expected to meet behind closed doors to discuss their options in light of a court ruling that says the city must provide adequate and accessible facilities for the municipal court.
Marietta City Council has called a committee of the whole meeting for 5 pm on Wednesday at 304 Putnam Street. A public announcement indicated that the meeting is expected to go into executive session. According to Ohio’s Sunshine Laws, public bodies may go into executive session to discuss litigation, the purchase of property, and for few other reasons.
A judgment rendered last Thursday found that the court facilities are “wholly inadequate”. It said “the city has a clear legal duty to provide the necessary court facilities and the citizens of Marietta are entitled to those court facilities”.
