Council Undecided on Appeal

Marietta officials are weighing their options following last week’s ruling from the fourth district court of appeals, which stated that the current municipal court facilities are inadequate and that the city needs to take steps to remedy the situation.

 

 

Following a closed door meeting Wednesday, Marietta City Council has yet to decide whether to pursue an appeal to the state supreme court. Members have agreed not to discuss their secret deliberations, but say they have not yet arrived at any conclusion.

 

 

They’ll have 45 days to appeal the order, which also calls for the city and intervenors to pay the attorney fees of the private taxpayer who filed the suit. The decision doesn’t call for the city to build a new facility, but points to a list of standards for suitability. In order to insure that the city is making progress, the court has asked for regular reports from the interested parties
