Fireworks Cause Damage in Belpre
Posted on: 07/01/2008
By  Callie Lyons
Fireworks have already been a source of damage to cars and at least one home in the Belpre area.

The Washington County Sheriff's Department is continuing the investigate several incidents involving fireworks from last Saturday.

In one case, someone placed what's called a "News Transmitter" device on the porch of a residence at 1838 Mill Branch Road.  Once lit, the firework expelled flaming projectiles upward and caused damage to the vinyl roof.

Similar devices were also placed inside unlocked vehicles on Murray Street and Beach Drive. A van in which one of the implements was placed sustained heavy damage while another vehicle sustained smoke damage. Other incidents inside the Belpre city limits were investigated by the Belpre Police Department.

The sheriff's department says that use of such items goes beyond the realm of a mere prank and has the potential to lead to serious injury or death.  Anyone with information pertaining to these incidents is urged to contact the Sheriff's Office at (740) 376-7070.
