A woman from Newport recently found herself the victim of a scam.

 

She wrote a check for $1,500 to an individual who offered to pave her driveway. The next day five individuals in two black trucks appeared and sprayed a black substance on her driveway with the claim that the substance would expand to a thickness of two or three inches.

 

The substance has so far failed to expand and the woman was unable to stop payment on her check.

 

The Washington County Sheriff’s department is investigating.
