Yesterday afternoon an Athens man was shot while driving on Main Street in Chauncey.

41 year old Craig Oxley was later pronounced dead at a Columbus hospital.

According to the Athens County sheriff’s department, witnesses at the scene heard gun shots and observed the vehicle Oxley was driving veer off the side of the road and hit a telephone pole before a suspect fled from the vehicle.

Sheriff Patrick Kelly says they are looking for 44 year old Matthew Wolfe of Athens. He has been charged with murder and is believed to be in the Columbus area.

Wolfe drives a 2000 Pontiac Grand Am with the license plate ELZ3575.

Sheriff Kelly says the murder appears to be the result of a “drug deal gone bad”.
