Roush Fenway Racing announced that it will shrink down to just two teams in 2017. The team will lease the charter that was used on the 16 Ford that was driven by Greg Biffle to JTG Daugherty Racing for their newest addition, Chris Buescher. Roush Fenway will keep Trevor Bayne and Ricky Stenhouse on board as their two drivers to pilot the numbers 6 and 17 Ford Fusions in 2017.

"We have been able to shore up our plans for 2017 and we feel that this will continue to move us in a direction that will yield improved performance and results," said Roush Fenway co-owner Jack Roush. "We saw improvement in our cars and made substantial gains in our performance at times last season, and we will continue to build on that by maintaining a robust engineering group in order to take the next step by consistently running up front." Tommy Wheeler and Kevin Kidd will lead Roush Fenway's overall competition efforts moving forward. As for crew chiefs, the No. 6 team will still have veteran crew chief Matt Puccia at the helm. The No. 17 team will have a new face overseeing the team. Brian Pattie, who was the crew chief for the No. 16 team will now be the head of the No. 17 team. Nick Sandler, who was the crew chief for the No. 17 team will now be the Director of Engineering at Roush Fenway.

All of this news comes just a little over a week after long time Roush Fenway driver Greg Biffle announced his departure from the team. Biffle joined Roush Fenway in 1998 and raced in all 3 of NASCAR's top divisions (Truck Series, Xfinity Series, Sprint Cup Series) and became a champion in the Truck Series and Xfinity Series. In 2005, he became the runner up in the final standings.
