John Wharff

Many nights the bedtime story was told through a transistor radio as Big John called the games. I’m a proud 2nd generation broadcaster, slyly directed into journalism by my old man when he realized a pro athletic career wasn’t in my future. I think I peaked as an athlete at about age 7, but it was a special year with the tee ball Cardinals. And yes, that’s how I became a lifelong St. Louis Cardinal fan (Bob Gibson and Lou Brock were icing on the cake).

I attended Journalism Camps at Ball State when other kids were going to football and basketball camps. In retrospect a good move, because I’m still very much in the game, without having to worry about concussions.
