WMOA Spoke with YMCA board chair, Rick Smith who gives us the update.
"The first step for the Marietta YMCA was to evaluate what our programs and our members want and need. And that was a step to the future and to modernize. The building structurally is great, but we can not operate in that building and another building at the same time. So, that's why the building is up for sale. Obviously prime real estate, so we believe there will be some great potential buyers coming in."
The YMCA Brand has been in Marietta for over 115 years smith added that the though the building is for sale, the brand of YMCA is not for sale.
"While the brand of the "Y" has been in the community for 115 years, we hope that will be in the community for another 115 years."
The building itself is around 60 years old. The future of the brand in the community is being evaluated. Smith stated that there are commercial opportunities and discussions are underway regarding a new home.
"It's not a fast process, much like selling real estate in this area the past two years. So, we wanted to get the word out and let them know the building is up for sale. When potential buyers come through and do the due diligence, it takes several months. We are going to stay confident that we will find the new location or the possible new locations for our programming and our brand."
Smith added that there is no panic or rush.
