Detectives 'hopeful' for new information following arrest in 1995 cold case
49-year-old Scott Hickman of Waterford, Ohio was indicted and arrested Tuesday for his role in the homicides of 28-year-old Kimberly Fulton and her 17-month-old son Daniel. Hickman was indicted on four counts of aggravated murder and two counts of murder by a Washington County grand jury.
The mother and son's charred remains were discovered after their mobile home in Palmer Square caught fire in the morning hours of March, 5, 1995. Evidence showed that the two likely died before a fire was set to cover up the homicides.
The case went cold for decades, but the WCSO's Cold Case Unit re-opened the case in Dec. 2019.
"We dedicated all of our time and resources to this investigation," said Lt. Bruce Schuck. "During the course of the investigation we have been able to identify and uncover some new information that resulted in the arrest and indictment of Scott Hickman."
WMOA News asked Cold Case Detective Lt. Jeff Seevers about the 'new' evidence that lead to the re-arrest of Hickman.
"We cannot really discuss that because the investigation is on-going and there is still a lot of work to do," he said. "We cannot say exactly what our new information is, but it is there."
The detectives are hopeful that the press conference will lead to tips from the community, specifically from a person that Lt. Seevers says 'definitely knows something'.
WMOA News will provide updates as this case develops.
