The Marietta Welfare League has held its annual grant luncheon. This year, the league awarded over$80,000 to 30 organizations in the Mid-Ohio Valley. We spoke with Marietta Welfare League President Cathy Rees, who discussed the organizations' receiving funds.

" There's a great variety. We have food pantries. We have people that support people in sober community. We have Harmer Rowing Club with the high school rowing team, Artsbridge, Habitat, so many in our community. "

The Welfare League has granted non-profit organizations funds for over thirty years. Most of the funds given come directly from the "League Shop" inside Marietta Memorial Shop. Rees talked about having an asset like the shop to help raise the funds.

" Well, we could never possibly raise as much funds as we have if it wasn't for the league shop. That's where the money comes for this day. Today we were able to give out over 82, 000 and all that money came from the league shop."

The Marietta Welfare League was created in 1926 and is looking to celebrate its 100th year of service in Washington County in 2026. As for whether there are any plans for year number 100, Rees just said this.

" We haven't got it planned yet, but it'll definitely be a big event and we're really excited."

The League is seeking new members who want to make a difference in the community. For more information on the group and how to become involved, please visit mariettawelfareleague.org.
