Museum After Hours
The Campus Martius Museum will hold its first planned "Museum After Hours" event on March 12th. Christy Welsh, the Director of Museum Operations, spoke more with WMOA about event details. "The museum After Hours is a new evening event that will be hosted at the museum. And what we're doing is showcasing different stories that we usually don't showcase, um, during regular operating hours." Based on the month, Welsh explains that the event activities will vary. "The after hours event, um, will be themed every month that we do have it. So since March is Women's History Month, we will try to highlight women's stories, um, and that isn't told throughout the museum as much, so this is a chance for us to get to talk about it a little bit more." Aside from the self-guided and Rufus Putnam House tours, there are many hands-on opportunities. "There will be docents throughout the museum and people can go to them and learn something different that you won't see in regular, um, text panels and, uh, artifacts that are on display currently. There will also be the opportunity to try your hand at weaving. Um, so one of our docents we'll be talking about weaving." In honor of America 250, the cost is $2.50, with kids being free. It is for everyone of all ages. "It's a good opportunity to get to see something different if you've been in before. Um, that's what we're trying to, to highlight and we really just wanna connect and, and create conversation around for this month, um, important women in the area and what they contributed, uh, for Women's History Month." It will begin at 5 PM and continue through 8 PM, covering all of the Campus Martius building, including the gift shop.
