Many fans were anticipating that the announcement would come during this trip to his home country of Japan. Ichiro announced that he would be retiring this morning and he received his curtain call during the 8th inning of the 2nd game of the 2019 MLB Season between the Seattle Mariners and the Oakland Athletics.

 

 

Ichiro Suzuki finishes his career with 3,089 hits in the major leagues and 4,367 in total. A 10-time All-Star and Gold Glove Award-winner, Ichiro finishes his career with a .311 batting average. He set Major League Baseballs record for hits in a single season with 262 in 2004.
