Several international shipments of baby formula have already come into the United States but CNN reports say it will take at least a few months to return to adequate supply levels.
Locally, Gospel Mission Food Pantry has been working diligently to acquire baby formula for local families in need.
Pantry co-owner Candy Waite says they have received an outpouring of kindness despite challenges presented by the national shortage. In one instance, Waite utilized online shopping site EBAY to purchase baby formula. Before the sale was finalized, the anonymous seller questioned Waite to confirm the formula would go to those in need. When the seller learned, they were selling to a food pantry, Waite claims the seller went above and beyond the agreed upon terms.
"They drooped the shipping and handling charge. That allowed us to continue to buy more. Then when we received the shipment of baby formula from the strangers, they would send blessed notes inside of the packages. One said your formula has been prayed over, below is my prayer for you."
The second letter from the seller shared a similar sentiment with a Bible passage at the bottom of the note. The passage chosen left Waite in disbelief.
"From psalms 91: 11 he will command his angels to guard you in all your ways and that psalms 91:11 is one of the psalms that I carry with me all the time. For the lord to send his angels to guide and protect me and lead me to what I need to do."
