The Marietta Police Department is reporting the arrest of Shila Day, age 22, and Noah Six, age 23, on eight counts of involuntary manslaughter and child endangerment in regard to the death of their five-month-old infant.

Officers were called to the apartment at 240 Hillcrest Drive after an acquaintance of Six called the Police, claiming Six called her to tell her the infant was not breathing. Officers found the five-month-old laid out on the floor, emaciated, and the body in the early stages of decay.

The home thermostat was set at 80 degrees. The home the child was in was found in deplorable conditions and littered with prescription medications, a large can of Butane, and alcohol, among other serious hazards.

Insect activity was present throughout the home, and an officer reported being repeatedly bitten by the insects at the scene. Two other children were removed and placed in the care of Children Services.

During interviews with Marietta Police investigators, the parents gave inconsistent stories about what part of the house they had slept the night before, and they were still determining which room the baby was sleeping in. Evidence at the scene led officers to suspect the level of care the parents claimed they were providing was not accurate.

The body was sent for an autopsy in Montgomery County, Ohio. The pathologist noted the 5-month-old weighed 7.7 pounds, which is less than the 2nd percentile by age. The cause of death was listed as: "Complications of dehydration and malnutrition.  The death is attributed to an unsafe sleep environment.
