Washington State Announces New Name
Washington State introduced a new name and logo as its mission as an institute continues to change. Washington State College of Ohio will be the new name as they start offering bachelor's degree programs. College President Vicky Wood Credited her team for the milestone achievement. "We are blessed to have such a talented, intelligent, hardworking team that always gives 120%. They're the people who helped us get this opportunity to offer a baccalaureate degree in nursing, which then changed our mission and changed the name of the college. So we couldn't have done it without the dedicated team of people that you see in this room." This is the fourth name change for the school in its history. The process started almost a year and a half ago when they were able to introduce and begin offering the Bachelor of Science Nursing Program. The school received feedback from staff, students, and community members. One common theme was Washington, so it remained in the name. They feel it represents their relationship with the community and Washington County workforce. Tyler Wilcox from the Washington State College of Ohio board spoke on the name change. " We have an amazing legacy of education in these communities and in this region, and that development of four name changes that represented further progress for this institution has just been amazing. So this progress and this new program represent a development of a bright future for the students in our markets." Looking towards the future, the college will continue to find ways to expand the programs it offers to students. They also want to strengthen partnerships with members of the workforce to be able to provide first-hand opportunities to students. More bachelor programs are in the works, but they will be introduced depending on the need in the workforce.
