Boys and Girls Club Awarded 1 Million Dollars
The Boys and Girls Club of Washington County received exciting news on March 18th about the Garett Scott Teen Center. Rebecca Johnson with the club revealed the big news. For those unfamiliar, the idea for a teen center started out as just being a music department within the current building at the Boys and Girls Club. Garett Scott was a staff member and was heavily involved with music. As a teen coordinator, he played a vital role in keeping the club going. The plans were put on hold when Garrett passed away at the age of 25 due to a heart condition. The board then decided that instead of just installing the music program, they should go forward with the building of a new complex for the teen center for the music program to pay tribute to Garett. Johnson spoke about what today means for them. The club intends to celebrate the award in a big way during the annual dinner on March 30th with the community. Tickets for the dinner can be purchased through the Boys and Girls Club of Washington County.
