The Marietta Community Foundation has opened applications for its scholarships. This year, it plans to award nearly $500,000. They have over scholarships covering a wide range. We spoke with Donor and Program Services Director Britani Merrit about the scholarships.

" We have scholarships for just about everything you can think of. We have one that goes to somebody who's going back to the military. We have some for students going to trade schools. We have some that are going to regular college, university, the career center. They range from, you know, whether you're going into  nursing or finance or business and there's a range of different scholarships for every level and every category and we have some that are just for education in general, not for specific things."

The scholarships are primarily designed for students in Washington and Noble counties in Ohio and Wood County in West Virginia. However, there are opportunities for students outside these areas. It is crucial to the foundation that the scholarship selection process is fair for all students.

"Student's names and address and personal information is redacted so the committees can only see their accomplishments, their academics, you know, the information that is important when we're looking at a scholarship and trying to find a good student"

Visit the Marietta Community Foundations website to learn more about each scholarship and to apply. The deadline to apply for scholarships is March 17th.
