Patrol reminds motorists of the importance of vehicle maintenance
During the same timeframe, there were 48 defect-related fatal crashes which resulted in 56 deaths on Ohio's roadways. Tire blowouts were the leading cause in 31 percent of these fatal crashes. In addition, there were 2,795 injury crashes in which a vehicle defect was a contributing circumstance.
Older vehicles were involved in the majority of vehicle defect-related crashes. Vehicles from model years 1999 - 2008 accounted for 53 percent of these crashes, while vehicles from model years 2010 - 2019 were involved in 25 percent of the crashes.
