Indians fall to Twins


The Cleveland Indians, freshly eliminated from playoff contention, lost to the Twins, who are still alive in the postseason race,  4-2 Thursday night in Cleveland.

Trevor Bauer went seven solid innings for the Tribe, allowing one run on two hits while walking three and striking out three. The Indians grabbed the lead in the 7th on a Roberto Perez two-run homer off Tyler Duffey, who went 6.1 and allowed just those two runs on the longball while scattering 6 hits in a no decision for Minnesota.

The Twins scored one in the 8th off Bryan Shaw and two more in the 9th off Cody Allen, who took the loss to fall to 2-5. The Twins won 3 of 4 in the series.
The Indians wrap up the season with a three game set at Progressive Field against the Red Sox.
 


Cubs sweep Reds


The playoff bound Chicago Cubs wrapped up a three game sweep of the Reds Thursday night with a 5-3 win at Great American Ballpark.
The Cubs held a 5-0 lead after the fifth, scoring five earned on John Lamb, who lasted just 4.2 innings for the Reds and allowed five hits, three walks, and collected six K's. Jason Hammel tossed five scoreless innings to improve to 10-7 for Chicago.

The Reds would score 3 in the seventh, as Jason Bourgeois knocked in a run with a groundout and Brandon Phillips and Joey Votto drove in runs with singles.

The Reds will finish a forgettable season in Pittsburgh with a three game series against the Pirates.
 


Thompson doesn't take Qualifying Offer


The Tristan Thompson contract saga continues in Cleveland, as the deadline passed at midnight for the Cavaliers big man to accept a one-year, $6.8 million qualifying offer. He'll remain a restricted free agent ad negotiations on a longer term deal are expected to continue. Meanwhile, Cavs training camp is underway.
 


Ravens edge Steelers for first win


The Baltimore Ravens improved to 1-3 with a 23-20 overtime win over the Steelers last night at Heinz Field.

The Steelers failed to convert two critical fourth-down plays and kicker Josh Scobee missed two of his four field goal attempts while Baltimore kicker Justin Tucker connected on game-tying field goal in the final seconds of regulation and nailed a 52-yard attempt in overtime to give the Ravens their first win of the season.

Michael Vick went 19/24 passing for 124 yards and a touchdown in his first start for the injured Ben Roethlisberger. Le'Veon Bell carried the ball 22 times for 129 yards and a score in the loss that drops the Steelers to 2-2.

Justin Forsett carried the load for Baltimore, rushing 27 times for 150 yards while Joe Flacco went 20/33 through the air for 189 yards with a TD and INT.
