$3.7 million in H2Ohio grants
Posted on: 10/18/2021
Ohio Governor Mike DeWine and Ohio EPA Director Laurie Stevenson announced 3.7 million dollars in H2Ohio grants. The grants will go to local communities to help improve drinking water quality and to repair or replace aging water and wastewater infrastructure.
Seven counties will benefit. The lowest amount will go to the Noble County Water Authority in the amount of $135,000. This will help to extend approximately 97,000 feet of water lines to connect an estimated 130 residents and businesses to the existing water main.
The largest amount is $750,000, which will be coming into Washington County. The Wastewater Infrastructure grant will go to the community of Devola. The EPA and Governor DeWine's office say that the failure of an abundance of household sewage treatment systems are causing threats to public health.
H2Ohio funding awarded to the county will connect Devola's approximately 500 homes and businesses to the county sewer system and eliminate the need for home septic systems.
Governor DeWine says all of the projects around the state are overdue and added that he and the EPA are excited to contribute toward improving water service and quality of life in the areas awarded funding.
