(MARIETTA, OH) - A Parkersburg man was arrested by the Marietta Police Department Tuesday night on accusations he threatened to kill his girlfriend, who lives in Marietta.

Marietta Police Captain Jeff Waite says 36-year-old Roy Lee Goodnight, Jr.  is accused of going to his girlfriend's Third Street home and assaulting her.

Waite says Goodnight was drinking during the day, entered the home, grabbed his girlfriend and started twisting her neck, and then threatened to break the woman's neck.

When the victim's children came into the room, Waite says Goodnight fled and ran down the street and yelling he would return to kill the woman while she slept. The woman told police Goodnight had assaulted her and made death threats a week earlier.

Waite says Goodnight is charged with abduction, aggravated menacing, and two counts of assault.

Goodnight was arrested in May after he got into a violent argument with the woman and broke a nearby car's window in a fit of rage, before falling into the Ohio River and injuring himself while trying to escape from police.

He was also sentenced to 120 days in jail on a second-degree felony domestic battery charge in Sept. 2014.
