(Marietta, OH) – In a Press Conference today Marietta Law Director Paul Bertram publicly announced that he and other officials working with him had found a legal way to make sure retired Officer Hickey and K9 Ajax retire together.

They were able to sell Ajax to Hickey for $1.

"I said from the beginning we would search for a solution within the confines of the Ohio law. And we found a solution. There wasn't any circumventing the law or anything like that. It was actually doing the due diligence." said Bertram.

Matt Hickey was there with Ajax.

He said, "I can't believe it's over with, I'm so happy and to the other people who have been involved in this, God bless you all."

When asked about his future plans Hickey said, "We're going to continue on with it and we're going to make sure that money gets to the right area. We're going to make the law change. We're going to work hard with the state of Ohio. They're already working on it. In other states other officers have called and I think we're going to start up some type of support group or non-profit organization or something where we can and change laws."
