(Marietta, OH) -- A solar-powered aircraft that has some of its parts coming from a local company has reached another milestone.

The Solar Impulse 2, a plane designed to fly without the use of any fuel, landed in Spain on Thursday morning -- after nearly a three-day flight across the Atlantic Ocean.

The 71-hour flight across the Atlantic was the first ever electric, solar and emission free flight across the world's second largest ocean. Earlier in the mission, the plane completed a 118-hour flight from Japan to Hawaii across most of the Pacific Ocean.

Solvay Specialty Polymers is a partner in the project, which seeks to advance the use of clean technology in a round-the-world flight.

Thursday's landing in Seville, Spain completes 90 percent of the flight.

After a few days in Spain, the plane will take off on another journey -- either to Egypt or Greece.
