Washington County Sheriff Detectives have reportedly arrested two Washington COunty Residents on charges of 3rd degree child endangering and 5th degree drug possession.
29-year-old Ellie Barnhart and 32-year-old Brent Reynolds have been arrested and taken to Washinton County Jail for processing.
The investigation reportedly began in April of this year when detectives learned that a five week old child had been taken to Nationwide Children's Hospital. Detectives then traveled to the hospital to speak with Barnhart and Reynolds.
According to the report, Detectives were advised that Barnhart had been nursing the child. Later, Barnhart also admitted to smoking marijuana every day, all day even thous she was nursing. The child reportedly weighed just over six pounds at birth and at five weeks old, the weight had dropped to just over four pounds. It was reportedly determined that the child was essentially "starving."
On the 14th of April, detectives reportedly executed a search warrant of the home belonging to Barnhart and Reynolds. During the search the report says that straws were located in the bedroom with a white residue which was later tested positive for cocaine, oxycodone, hydrocodone and 6-monoascetylomorphine.
The two were interviewed and questioned about the straws and both reportedly denied ownership of the straws or to using drugs. A witness later reportedly said that they had seen barnhart smoking marijuana and snorting pills while she was nursing her child.
The child was reportedly removed earlier this month from the custody of the parents and both Barnhart and Reynolds remain incarcerated in the Washington County Jail pending their court appearance.
