IRS extends Deadline
Posted on: 01/25/2021
The Internal Revenue Service announced that the nation's tax season will start on Friday, February 12, when the tax agency will begin accepting and processing 2020 tax year returns.
The IRS says the later start allows the agency more time to do additional testing and programming for their systems following the tax law change in December that allowed the second economic stimulus package to be processed.
These changes, according to IRS reports, ensure that eligible people will receive any remaining stimulus money as a Recovery Rebate Credit when they file their 2020 tax return.
You can still file now, however; it won't be accepted until February 12th. The IRS urges taxpayers to file electronically.
The deadline for filing 2020 tax returns is April 15th.
