MARIETTA, Ohio- A local resident has made the Washington County Sheriff's Office aware of a scam call from an individual claiming to be from Medicare.

Over the weekend, the caller alerted the office stating that the scammer explained that the red, white and blue Medicare card was expiring and by Medicare Policy, he needed the 11-digit alphanumeric number from the card as verification.  It was also stated that the code was needed prior to sending a replacement.

The scammer had no information about the caller other than a first name because the caller refused to give additional information. The scammer became agitated and began making threats of harassing the individual and cancelling the Medicare plan. The caller was reportedly persistent and called back after being hung up on.

Just as this potential victim did… you should as well if you feel you are talking with a scammer.
