MARIETTA, OHIO- The O'Neill Senior Center announced today that it will begin traveling again for the first time since Feb. 16, 2020.
Day trips will start on August 25, with a trip to Sugar Creek to see a new musical at the Ohio Star Theatre. An Amish Family Style dinner is also planned. The final day in August will be a trip to Coshocton, Ohio. Ohio natives Woody Hayes and Cy Young are featured in a museum stop on the trip. A canal boat is also on the schedule.
Another trip is planned for September. This will be in Shanksville, Pennsylvania to memorialize Flight 93 which crashed on September 11, 2001. This year's anniversary will mark 20 years since the attacks on the United States.
The first overnight trip will also be in September in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. The Sight and Sound Theatre will be featured.
Nancy Matheny, trip facilitator for the center, joined WMOA to speak about their plans for Oct. 3.
"We are heading out to New Mexico for the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta," Matheny explained. "We are going to ride a train into the south rim of the Grand Canyon, as well as visiting White Sands National Park. The best thing is that we take you in our bus to the airport for a non-stop flight. The 30-40 people on the trip will just about fill up a plane, which gives a layer of added protection concerning interactions with strangers."
Throughout the traveling season, the O'Neill Senior Center is asking that all travelers be vaccinated. The final trip for 2021 will be a December trip to Nashville, Tennessee. The Grand Ole Opry at the historic Ryman Auditorium will be featured. More information can be received contacting the O'Neill Senior Center.
