UPDATE: Additional information regarding a double homicide in Morgan County was released today. A Pickaway County couple was reportedly camping in Morgan County and turned up missing. The mother of one of the campers alerted the Morgan County Sheriff and a missing persons report was filed. The bodies of 36-year-old Steven Sturgill and 39-year-old Crystal Burchett of Circleville were discovered a couple of weeks after the filed report.
Preliminary autopsies show that both the victims succumbed to gunshot wounds.
Reports say 43 year old Brian Weimert of Sidney, Ohio is currently being charged with both counts of aggravated murder and his bond is set at 1 million dollars. The Washington County Sheriff's Office assisted the Morgan county Sheriff's Office in the investigation.
ORIGINAL: MORGAN COUNTY, OH- A double Homicide is being reported in the Mid-Ohio Valley. The Morgan County Sheriff's Office is reporting that a call was received July 26 to assist the Ohio Department of Natural Resources in a well being check of a family in the Appalachian Hills wildlife area.
Around the beginning of July 2021, the Morgan County Sheriff reports that they filed a missing persons report after a mother reported her son and his girlfriend missing. The office learned that the Pickaway County residents had gone to Morgan County to camp and lost contact with their family.
The Sheriff's Office coordinated with ODNR and a full investigation was launched. Reports say the couple's trailer and vehicle were discovered and impounded on July 26. An extensive search followed which went into the early morning hours July 27. During the search, two deceased bodies were discovered in two different locations.
Sheriff McGrath in Morgan County summoned the Washington County Sheriff's Office Detective Bureau. They arrived and processed the multiple crime scenes for Sheriff McGrath. The bodies were removed to the Licking County Coroner's Office and are reportedly awaiting autopsies. Names are being withheld at this point pending positive identification and family notification.
Reports also state that the Morgan County Sheriff's Office took an unidentified male into custody and he is being held pending formal charges.
