The Washington County Fair released its 2021 schedule. Events will begin for the public on September 4 and will last through September 7.
A long list of events will spread throughout the first weekend in September. Gates will open at 9 a.m. on the fourth and feature tractor pulls prior to the start of the Washington County Fair Parade that begins at 10 a.m. Director of the Fair Board Fred Boyd talked about the anticpation for the upcoming fair.
"Usually, one of the main events of the Washington County Fair. It's been there for years. You'll have a lot of floats, bands, just the whole group. Everyone comes and the streets are lined.
The carnival rides at the fair will be different than years past. State inspectors are conducting more mandatory checks for rust and metal fatigue and increasingly flagging rides for repairs during the first year of enforcement under the new regulations, according to ABC NEWS.
"We had a major ride company out of Indiana that's been here in the past. About six weeks ago we got a call saying they don't know if they can pass the inspection the state of Ohio has so we are not coming. We had to scurry and get someone to come up with a ride company. We are hoping people will accept it and it'll work."
Calliope Productions of New Matamoros is the new carnival ride company mentioned.
Some of the big events back on the schedule is a tractor pull on Saturday, a rodeo on Sunday, a puppet show on Monday and a Demolition Derby on Tuesday just to name a few.
Fair festivities will run September 4- September 7.
