MARIETTA, OH- The Superintendent of Marietta City Schools, Will Hampton released statements late last week regarding the school system and COVID-19. Hampton touched on infection rates in the area and their rise from under 20 to over 200 infections per 100,000.

Hampton added that this is impacting the school. In the first 8 days of the new school year, Marietta City Schools have seen 15 positive cases and 99 students and one staff member out of school due to infection or quarantine.

Marietta City Schools will begin to enforce a mask mandate for all students and staff Tuesday. Masks will be required to be worn in all indoor school facilities in addition to buses.  Masks will not be required in outdoor settings.

Superintendent Hampton says he does not want to make the change but if infections and quarantines continue to grow, the school system runs a risk of having to change how instruction is delivered.

Hampton concluded his statements thanking everyone for their patients and support as the system continues to work through the challenges.
