The morning of June 2nd the county commissioners took a huge step in the Devola Sewer Project by awarding a bid to RDR Utility Service Group. The bid was a little over 14.8 million dollars. Washington County Commissioner Charlie Schilling spoke about how it feels to take this next step in the project.
"It's a relief because we can move onto some other initiatives we have. Now that the project can get started, we have our inspectors and everyone who will provide oversight. Now we can move onto other things like essential 911 here in the county, a save water initiative we are working on. Just being able to work on other things is a relief."
The contract contains milestone dates which include the installation of all sanitary sewer mains be completed within 260 working days of the notice to proceed, along with the completion of 280 homes by the end of 2023. As for what's next in the project Schilling said,
"We are looking to start construction of the project in the next couple months. Right now, RDR is going to be buying supplies and materials for the project. We have staging areas for them which have already been set up in the Devola area."
At the moment, the entire project is scheduled to be completed by the middle of 2024.
