RAVENNA - The Ohio State Highway Patrol's Ravenna Post is currently investigating a fatal crash on Interstate 76 in Edinburg Township, Portage County, involving a commercial motor vehicle and two pedestrians.
At 2:25 Friday morning, the Patrol's Ravenna Dispatch Center received a call about a serious injury crash on I-76 near state Route 14. Troopers arrived on scene and discovered a 2016 Kenworth tractor with double trailer had been traveling westbound in the right lane. The driver of the Kenworth observed a vehicle fire on the north shoulder and changed lanes. The Kenworth continued westbound, in the left lane, when it struck two pedestrians that were in the roadway.
The pedestrians were identified as Yusuf A Evans, 50, Akron, and Tyran Williams-Clark, 29, Barberton. Evans was pronounced dead at the scene. Williams-Clark was transported to University Hospital for life-threatening injuries. The two are believed to be associated with the vehicle fire which was on the north side of the roadway.
The driver of the Kenworth tractor trailers was identified as Robin Adamson, 43, Greenville.
The Patrol was assisted on scene by the Ohio Department of Transportation, Portage County Prosecutor, Portage County Coroner's Office, Portage County Sheriff Department, Edinburg Township Fire Department, Palmyra Township Fire Department, Deerfield Township EMS and Rootstown Township EMS.
I-76 was shut down for approximately three and a half hours. The roadway has since reopened.
The crash remains under investigation.
